Camera Flash Animation

Say Cheese!

The objective for this design was to animate something I have created in the past, or to create something new and animate that. I chose to use one of my stickers from the last project I did, and I chose the camera. Although it may seem simple, I wanted to choose the camera because I love to take photos and I love to capture scenes, moments, and memories around me. Come with me as I walk through my process of animating this camera!
It all starts with a sketch...
In order to envision what I wanted to be done and what exact animations I wanted, I had to do a storyboard. In all of my other projects I did multiple sketches to get the full idea. A story board is exactly that but with animations or videos. So in my storyboard, I started out with the first still frame of the camera, then in the middle, I wanted there to be a flash coming from the flash unit. After that, I wanted to make the button seem as it was being pressed on to take a photo. The final product would be the still frame of the camera once again. Let's see how I did!

The rough...very rough drafts...

Well..this is it. Not too fancy, right? My initial rough draft was a little..well..rough. As you can see it was very animated and unrealistic. The flash is in the form of a star, it's bright yellow, and it has a black stroke around it. The thing is, I didn't notice all of these little details. Luckily, I have other designers around me to help me out and give me critiques and feedback. The feedback of the design itself that I just mentioned were the critiques I got. So what did I do with them? I took them all into account and got to work removing and adding different assets and affects.

The final product

And this is it ladies and gentlemen! I am very proud of myself for accomplishing this design. In about 2 weeks of being introduced to Adobe AfterEffects, I was able to complete this design. I believe that I completed my initial objective because if we're looking at just the basics, I made all of the movements as it should be. But, I also feel that I timed the flash and the button-pressing perfectly to make it look as realistic as possible. This was an interesting project but I'm glad I did it because now I know that I'm more capable of creating different works of art than I think. Thank you all for joining me!
